Stocks to Watch: NSE, Bata India, Hindustan Zinc, Nykaa, ASK Automotive

Earnings and Product Launches Put a Diverse Group of Shares in Focus

Global weakness sets a cautious tone, while quarterly results offer investors sharply contrasting signals on growth and margins.

Indian equities were poised for a weak start, with GIFT Nifty lower and major Asian markets declining, even as crude prices slipped below $105 a barrel. National Stock Exchange of India and ASK Automotive reported higher quarterly profits, while Bata India’s revenue growth came alongside margin pressure. Hindustan Zinc launched two new products, and Nykaa is among the companies scheduled to report results.

Global cues point to a cautious opening

The domestic market faced a subdued lead-in on Wednesday. GIFT Nifty was down 53 points, or 0.21%, at 23,710.5 as of 7.45am. Japan’s Nikkei fell 3.2%, South Korea’s KOSPI lost 1.6% and Australian shares were 0.39% lower. The overnight US session was mixed: the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.38%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite gained 0.37% and 0.83%, respectively.

Oil offered a counterpoint. Brent crude fell 0.3% to $103.3 a barrel and WTI declined 0.6% to $95.4. Lower crude can ease some cost pressures for fuel-consuming businesses, but the supplied market snapshot does not establish that this will offset weaker global sentiment. Investors may therefore weigh the external cues alongside company-specific results rather than treating the oil decline as a standalone market signal.

NSE and ASK Automotive deliver stronger profit growth

National Stock Exchange of India reported a 22.8% year-on-year rise in consolidated second-quarter net profit to ₹2,577.6 crore. Revenue increased 10.6% to ₹4,066.8 crore. The figures put growth in earnings ahead of revenue growth, although the update provided does not give further detail on the drivers of that performance.

ASK Automotive’s revenue rose 47.7% to ₹1,555 crore, beating estimates, while net profit advanced 27.5% to ₹102 crore. EBITDA increased 13.9% to ₹178 crore, but the margin narrowed to 11.4% from 12.9%. The gap between sales and EBITDA growth is worth noting: strong revenue expansion did not translate into comparable operating-profit growth in the quarter.

Bata’s sales rise as margins tighten

Bata India recorded a 7.6% increase in revenue to ₹862 crore. EBITDA was almost unchanged at ₹144 crore, and its margin contracted to 16.7% from 18%. Net profit rose 38.5% to ₹18 crore. The results present a mixed operating picture: sales and reported profit grew, but the margin movement suggests revenue growth alone does not capture the quarter’s performance.

Hindustan Zinc, meanwhile, launched VedAZ and VedAyush, two next-generation zinc alloys developed for the galvanising industry. The launch expands the company’s value-added product range. Its commercial contribution is not specified in the update, so investors will need further information to assess the scale of the opportunity.

More results will add to the day’s stock-specific cues

FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which operates Nykaa, is among the companies scheduled to announce quarterly results, alongside Apollo Hospitals, Lenskart Solutions, Dabur India, Aurobindo Pharma, Biocon and Cummins India. Their announcements could shift attention from the cautious market opening to revenue, profitability and operating trends, but no result expectations are provided in the update.

Other reported updates are also mixed. Clean Max Enviro posted 37% revenue growth and an 86% rise in net profit, while Linde India’s revenue increased 12.3% even as EBITDA fell 17.8% and net profit declined 30%. JNK India secured an order worth around ₹300–600 crore for a heater package. These developments put earnings quality, margins and execution alongside headline growth in focus.
