Nifty’s Medium-Term Momentum Improves; 24,000 Seen as Next Resistance

Nifty’s Recovery Brings Long-Term Trend Barriers Into Focus

A sharp multi-session rebound has improved the index’s medium-term technical picture, but key resistance levels remain close.

The Nifty gained 370 points to close at 23,810, extending its advance to four consecutive sessions and more than 1,200 points over seven trading days. A move above the 100-day exponential moving average has strengthened the technical setup, while resistance near 23,903 and 24,012 and support at 23,500 are the levels to watch. HDFC Securities also highlighted technical setups in Maruti Suzuki and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

The rebound has carried beyond short-term averages

The benchmark opened 142 points higher on Tuesday and added to its gains through the session, closing at the day’s high. It was the Nifty’s fourth consecutive advance and its biggest four-session rally since April 8, 2026. The index has risen more than 1,200 points in seven trading sessions, marking a forceful recovery from recent lows.

For technical analysts, the sequence of levels reclaimed matters as much as the size of the rebound. After moving above its 20-day and 50-day moving averages, the Nifty has also crossed its 100-day exponential moving average. That progression points to improving medium-term momentum, although it does not by itself confirm that every near-term hurdle has been cleared.

The 200-day averages define the next test

HDFC Securities places the next resistance at 23,903, corresponding to the 200-day EMA, and 24,012, corresponding to the 200-day simple moving average. With the index closing at 23,810, those levels form a nearby zone where the recovery could encounter selling pressure or pause. A sustained move through them would strengthen the technical case, while a failure to advance could leave the market consolidating after its rapid gains.

The brokerage has raised the Nifty’s support level to 23,500. Its view is that a pullback towards this area could offer a buying opportunity, provided the index holds above it. That condition is important: the support level is a reference point in the analysis, not a guarantee that declines will stop there. Investors should watch how the index behaves around both the resistance zone and this higher support.

Two stock calls rely on separate technical setups

HDFC Securities recommended buying Maruti Suzuki at ₹11,828, with a stop-loss of ₹10,985 and a target of ₹12,920. Its rationale was that the stock had moved above its 20-day EMA and a triple-top resistance near ₹11,650, while the advance was accompanied by higher volumes. The brokerage also cited a daily RSI holding above 50 and a rising daily MACD above its signal line.

For Kotak Mahindra Bank, the recommendation was to buy at ₹462, with a stop-loss of ₹430 and a target of ₹495. The stock was described as approaching a multi-top resistance level, with its primary trend remaining bullish as it held above key moving averages. Higher volumes, a weekly RSI above 50 and a weekly MACD rising above both zero and its signal line were cited as supporting indicators. These are technical calls, and their stated levels should be read as part of the brokerage’s strategy rather than as assured outcomes.

Investor Note: The improving technical picture is encouraging, but the Nifty is approaching two identified resistance levels after a sharp run-up. Treat the brokerage’s stock calls as time-sensitive technical strategies, consider the stated risk levels carefully and avoid assuming that targets or support will necessarily hold.
