Analysts Decode H2FY27 Outlook for Nifty, Bank Nifty and IT Stocks

Analysts Predict Mixed Outlook for Nifty, Bank Nifty, and IT Stocks in H2FY27

As the market transitions into the second half of FY27, analysts are weighing the potential trajectories for key indices, with a cautious yet strategic outlook.

Equity benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty, concluded the first half of FY27 with modest gains of 0.7% and 1.3%, respectively. In contrast, the Nifty Defence sector surged by 27%, while the Nifty IT index faced a downturn of nearly 5%.

Nifty’s Technical Outlook

As the Nifty index closed at 22,620 in September, technical analysts are observing critical support and resistance levels. Muthuselvaraj from Mirae Asset Sharekhan notes that the index has faced profit-taking after hitting resistance at 26,300, leading to a consolidation phase. He anticipates that a breach below the 200-week Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at 22,383 could trigger a decline towards the 22,200-22,300 range.

Om Mehra from SAMCO Securities highlights the rarity of the Nifty’s seven-week losing streak, which has pushed its weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) down to 33, nearing the oversold territory. He identifies a support zone between 22,000 and 22,500, suggesting that this could be a crucial battleground for bulls. Should the Nifty manage to hold above 22,840, it could rally towards levels between 24,800 and 25,500.

Bank Nifty Faces Headwinds

The Bank Nifty, which closed at 54,633, has also seen a decline, shedding 6% in September and 9% year-to-date. Muthuselvaraj notes that profit-taking followed a recent swing high of 58,480, and the index may not have completed its correction phase. With the weekly RSI at 38, indicating it is not yet oversold, Mehra warns that a weekly close below 52,500 could lead to a significant drop towards the 50,000 mark.

Both analysts expect the Bank Nifty to trade within a range of 52,500 to 58,500 over the next six months, with Muthuselvaraj suggesting that a move towards 52,960 would represent a 61.8% retracement of the recent swing range. However, he also points out that buying opportunities could emerge if the index defends the 51,100 level.

Nifty IT’s Struggles and Future Prospects

The Nifty IT index, closing at 27,705, remains under pressure, with analysts noting a failed bounce in its ratio against the Nifty. Mehra indicates that the index could fluctuate between 26,000 and 32,000, with a potential drop to 24,000 if it closes below 26,000. Conversely, Muthuselvaraj maintains a ‘sideways-to-bullish’ outlook, suggesting that the index is in a consolidation phase following a significant correction of nearly 45% since December 2024.

While Muthuselvaraj does not rule out a retest of the medium-term support at 25,700, he believes that a breakout above 31,214 could lead to a rally towards 34,600-37,000. However, he cautions that the Nifty IT is currently trading below all major EMAs, indicating a negative short-term signal.

Key Highlights

  • Nifty closed at 22,620, with support seen around 22,000-22,500.
  • Bank Nifty closed at 54,633, facing potential further corrections.
  • Nifty IT remains weak, with a trading range expected between 26,000 and 32,000.
  • A weekly close below 22,000 for Nifty could lead to a dip towards 21,500.
  • Analysts caution about the Bank Nifty’s potential drop to 50,000 if it closes below 52,500.

Investor Note: As investors navigate the market landscape in H2FY27, it is crucial to monitor key support levels and sector performance, particularly in Nifty, Bank Nifty, and IT stocks, to make informed investment decisions.
