SIP Accounts Reach New Heights as Investor Confidence Grows
The surge in SIP account additions signals a robust recovery in investor sentiment, reflecting a growing preference for mutual funds as a wealth-building strategy.
Investor Confidence on the Rise
The latest data reflects a significant uptick in investor confidence in mutual funds as a disciplined and long-term wealth creation vehicle. Venkat Chalasani, Chief Executive of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), noted the crossing of a significant milestone with 100.2 million contributing SIP accounts. This figure excludes inactive accounts, which are defined as those that have failed to transact three consecutive times.
Record Contributions and Inflows
In August, SIP contributions reached a new high of ₹32,297 crore, further underscoring the growing interest in mutual funds. The renewed growth momentum in SIPs is attributed to the attractive returns from smallcap and midcap funds, which have rebounded significantly. According to Value Research data, the average one-year returns for smallcap and midcap funds currently stand at 12.8% and 7.8%, respectively.
Sector Performance and Future Outlook
The performance of smallcap and midcap funds has been particularly noteworthy, as these categories have attracted the bulk of SIP inflows. A recent Amfi report highlighted that SIP-linked assets of smallcap funds grew the fastest over the last five years, ending March 2026. This trend suggests that investors are increasingly looking towards these segments for potential growth, especially in a recovering market.
