Sai Life Shares Soar 10% to Record High on Strong Q2 Earnings

Sai Life’s Q2 Growth Puts Its CRDMO Pipeline in Focus

Broad-based revenue growth and a stronger second-half outlook drew buyers, even as mid- and small-cap indices fell.

Sai Life Sciences reported 23% year-on-year revenue growth and a 17% rise in profit after tax for Q2FY27, with both its CRO and CDMO businesses contributing. The results, alongside management’s expectation of a stronger second half, helped the shares reach a record high as investors assessed the company’s pipeline and capacity expansion.

Growth came from both sides of the business

Sai Life Sciences posted revenue of ₹659 crore in the July-September quarter, up 23% from a year earlier. Profit after tax increased 17% to ₹98 crore, while EBITDA margins stood at 28%. The company said growth was broad-based, with both contract research organisation (CRO) and contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) operations performing well.

The mix matters because the company’s offering spans drug discovery, development and manufacturing. In principle, work that begins as a research engagement can create opportunities to support customers at later stages as programmes advance. That is a potential route to deeper relationships and a broader stream of work, though individual projects still need to progress through the pipeline.

Capacity investment underpins the second-half outlook

Management said it expects a stronger second half, supported by the progression of its development and commercial pipeline and the ramp-up of new capacity. It added that the expansion programme remained on track, with ₹621 crore invested in the first half of FY27.

The investment is intended to build capacity and capabilities for customer programmes, but spending alone does not guarantee returns. The commercial significance will depend on whether new capacity is used effectively and whether projects move into larger-scale supply. Investors will therefore be watching execution alongside the company’s stated pipeline progression.

Brokerage sees opportunity in larger pharma relationships

PL Capital, which initiated coverage in October 2026, identified large-pharma engagements as a key near-term growth driver. Its thesis is that the discovery business can feed projects into development and, potentially, commercial manufacturing. The brokerage also pointed to the late-stage and commercial pipeline, planned FY27E capital expenditure of ₹1,100 crore to ₹1,300 crore, and the possibility of winning a larger share of existing customers’ spending.

The brokerage forecasts FY26-29E compound annual growth of 21% in revenue, 25% in EBITDA and 26% in profit after tax, including projected growth of 23% in CDMO services and 16% in CRO. These are analyst estimates, not company-reported outcomes. PL Capital’s stated target price was ₹1,620 a share, below the trading level described in the market update, a gap that highlights the importance of valuation as well as growth expectations.

A record high came against a weaker broader market

Sai Life touched ₹1,775, surpassing its previous high of ₹1,697, and was up about 10% at ₹1,757 at 10:12 a.m. The Nifty 50 was up 0.47% at that time, while the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 were down 1% and 1.6%, respectively. Trading volume rose to more than 10 times its average, with 3.4 million shares changing hands across the NSE and BSE.

That divergence suggests the company’s results were a specific focus for buyers during the session, rather than simply reflecting strength across smaller companies. A sharp move and heavy turnover show heightened attention, but do not establish whether the price can be sustained. The next test is whether operating performance and pipeline conversion continue to support expectations embedded in the shares.

Key Highlights

  • Q2FY27 revenue rose 23% year on year to ₹659 crore.
  • Profit after tax increased 17% to ₹98 crore; EBITDA margins were 28%.
  • Both CRO and CDMO businesses contributed to the quarter’s growth.
  • Management expects a stronger second half and reported ₹621 crore of investment in H1FY27.
  • PL Capital’s growth forecasts and target price are brokerage views, not company guidance.

Investor Note: The results offer evidence of broad-based growth, while the longer-term case depends on pipeline conversion, capacity utilisation and delivery against expectations. Investors should weigh those execution factors and the valuation against their own risk tolerance rather than treating a record high as a measure of future returns.
