OFSS Shares Slide 7%: What’s Spooking Nifty IT’s Top Stock?

OFSS Shares Plunge Amid Debt Concerns Surrounding Oracle’s AI Expansion

Concerns over Oracle’s financial stability have led to a sharp decline in OFSS shares, raising questions about the future of this Nifty IT leader.

Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS) saw its shares tumble more than 7% in intraday trading, driven by mounting concerns over debt linked to its parent company, Oracle. This decline comes despite OFSS’s strong year-to-date performance, making it the top stock in a struggling Nifty IT index.

Market Reaction to Debt Concerns

OFSS shares hit a low of ₹11,034 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), marking a 7.25% drop from the previous close of ₹11,896. As of early afternoon trading, the stock was hovering near this low, with over 400,000 shares exchanged across BSE and NSE. The sharp decline has raised eyebrows, especially given that OFSS had previously surged 55% year-to-date, positioning it as a standout performer within the Nifty IT index, which has struggled overall.

Technical Analysis and Support Levels

Harish Jujarey from Prithvi Finmart noted that the stock breached a critical support level at ₹11,300 during the trading session. This technical breakdown, along with a slip below the 50-day moving average (DMA), suggests potential further downside, with targets around ₹11,000 and ₹10,550. Conversely, the 50-DMA at approximately ₹11,500 is now seen as immediate resistance, indicating that the stock may face challenges in regaining upward momentum in the near term.

Underlying Issues: Oracle’s Debt and Project Jupiter

The decline in OFSS shares can be traced back to a Financial Times report indicating that $18 billion in loans related to Oracle’s New Mexico data center project, known as “Project Jupiter,” have entered a stressed territory. The loans, which were initially secured to support Oracle’s ambitious $300 billion partnership with OpenAI for AI infrastructure, are reportedly trading at 89 to 91 cents on the dollar, raising concerns over Oracle’s financial health and creditworthiness. This situation has made it difficult for Oracle to sell the debt to a broader investor base, further compounding fears regarding its financial stability.

Strong Q1 Results Provide Some Context

The company also reported a significant rise in operating income, reflecting strong demand for its product licenses and IT solutions. These results highlight the underlying strength of OFSS’s business, even as external factors related to its parent company pose risks to its stock performance.
