Hero Motors Shares Jump 8% as Q1 Profit Doubles, 100% Over IPO

Hero Motors Sees 8% Surge Following Strong Q1 Earnings Report

The impressive financial results and strategic acquisition have fueled investor optimism in Hero Motors.

Hero Motors has reported a significant increase in its first-quarter profits, leading to a notable rise in its share price since its market debut.

Strong Market Reaction to Q1 Results

Shares of Hero Motors surged by 8% on Wednesday, following the announcement of its first-quarter results, which showed a remarkable doubling of profits. The stock opened at ₹161 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and reached an intraday high of ₹167.39, reflecting strong investor interest.

Since its lackluster debut on September 23, where it listed at a discount to its issue price of ₹84, Hero Motors has seen its stock price more than double, peaking at ₹178.84 on October 5. As of 10 AM, the shares were trading at ₹163.55, giving the company a market capitalization of ₹7,427.79 crore.

Financial Performance Highlights

Hero Motors reported a consolidated profit of ₹10.20 crore for the April-June quarter, marking a 116% increase year-on-year from ₹4.73 crore in the same period last year. The company’s consolidated revenue also grew by 25% year-on-year to ₹319 crore, up from ₹256 crore in the previous year.

However, there was a sequential decline in net profit by nearly 33% from ₹14.80 crore, and revenue slipped slightly from ₹322.52 crore. This mixed performance raises questions about the sustainability of growth moving forward.

Strategic Acquisition Enhances Growth Prospects

In addition to its financial results, Hero Motors announced the acquisition of an additional 39% stake in its subsidiary, Hewland Engineering Limited, for a total consideration of up to GBP 0.60 million. This move will increase Hero Motors’ ownership in Hewland Engineering to 90%, reinforcing its strategic position in the market.

Hero Motors is trading at a high price-to-earnings ratio of 145x, which some experts believe may already factor in significant future growth. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, advises investors to be cautious and monitor upcoming quarterly results and margin sustainability before making new investments.
