Gold, Silver Rally Globally as Inflation Fears Ease, Slip on MCX

Global Gold and Silver Prices Surge Amid Easing Inflation, Domestic Markets React Differently

While global gold and silver prices are on the rise due to easing inflation fears, domestic markets are experiencing a different trend.

Gold and silver prices have surged in international markets, with gold crossing $4,200 per ounce. However, in the domestic market, both metals have seen a decline despite a firm opening.

Global Market Dynamics

In the global arena, gold futures on the Comex were trading near $4,230 per ounce, while silver was at approximately $61.30 per ounce. The recent rally in precious metals can be attributed to a decrease in inflation concerns, particularly following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding Russia’s agreement to supply significant quantities of diesel. This development has raised hopes that global fuel shortages may ease, which could further alleviate inflationary pressures.

Earlier this year, gold prices peaked at $5,586.20 per ounce, while silver reached an astonishing high of $121.79 per ounce. The current trading levels indicate a recovery from those peaks, albeit with fluctuations influenced by market sentiments and geopolitical developments.

Domestic Market Reaction

Contrary to the global trend, the domestic market has seen gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) trading lower after a firm opening. Initially, the December gold contract opened at ₹1,51,596 per 10 grams, up by ₹97 from the previous close. However, it soon fell by ₹654 to ₹1,50,845. Silver futures also opened lower, starting at ₹2,25,494 per kg, and subsequently trading down to ₹2,25,304.

This divergence between global and domestic prices highlights the complexities of the Indian market, where local factors such as currency fluctuations, demand-supply dynamics, and investor sentiment can significantly influence pricing.

A sustained price above ₹1,51,915 could indicate a potential recovery towards ₹1,52,330, while a break below ₹1,50,870 might lead to further declines.

Similarly, silver is also experiencing short covering, with open interest decreasing by 8.92% to 16,859 contracts. The support levels for silver are at ₹2,24,070 and ₹2,22,385, while resistance is seen at ₹2,27,010 and ₹2,28,265. A sustained price above ₹2,27,010 could lead to a recovery towards ₹2,28,265, whereas a drop below ₹2,24,070 could indicate increased weakness.
