German Green Steel Shares Reverse Listing Gains, Fall 8% Below IPO Price

German Green Steel Faces Profit-Taking Pressure Post IPO

Investors react to initial gains as German Green Steel shares slip below their IPO price.

The recent IPO of German Green Steel and Power saw a strong initial response, but the shares have since come under pressure, closing 8% below their offer price. This development raises questions about investor sentiment and market expectations for the company moving forward.

Initial Listing and Market Reaction

German Green Steel and Power made its market debut on Monday, opening at ₹143.50 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which represented a 3.2% premium over its IPO price of ₹139. However, the initial enthusiasm quickly faded as the stock fell to a low of ₹127.20, reflecting a broader trend of profit-taking among investors. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the shares opened slightly higher at ₹142 but also dipped to ₹127.12 during the trading session.

Strong IPO Subscription but Market Disappointment

The IPO, which ran from September 25 to September 29, garnered significant interest, being oversubscribed 28.98 times overall. The retail segment saw a subscription rate of 22.83 times, while the Non-Institutional Investors (NII) segment was booked 54.03 times, and Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB) subscribed 20.93 times. Despite this robust demand, the stock’s performance on its debut fell short of expectations, as indicated by the grey market premium (GMP) prior to listing.

Use of IPO Proceeds and Company Outlook

The ₹304-crore IPO consisted of a fresh share sale of ₹290 crore and an offer for sale of ₹14 crore. The funds raised are earmarked for capital expenditures aimed at expanding the Samakhiyali manufacturing facility and developing a hybrid wind and solar power plant. Additionally, the proceeds will be used for repaying outstanding borrowings and for general corporate purposes. This strategic investment is expected to bolster the company’s production capabilities and enhance operational efficiency.
