Birlasoft Shares Rally 11% on Huge Volume After Q2 Results

Birlasoft’s Earnings Bounce Meets a Cautious Demand Outlook

A sharp share-price rebound followed sequential revenue growth, but weaker deal bookings and lower margins leave the recovery dependent on stronger conversion ahead.

Birlasoft shares climbed as much as 11% after the company reported a 2.1% quarter-on-quarter increase in constant-currency revenue for Q2FY27. Yet revenue remained lower year on year, EBITDA margin contracted and quarterly contract value fell, leaving investors to weigh improving sequential performance against uncertain demand.

A high-volume rebound after a weak stretch

Birlasoft surged 11% to ₹341.20 in intraday trade on the BSE after its September-quarter results, with the company attributing the move to improved sequential earnings. At 09:37 AM, the stock was up 10% at ₹336.70, while the Sensex had gained 0.23%. A combined 7.07 million shares changed hands on the NSE and BSE during the first 22 minutes, indicating unusually active trading.

The rally came after Birlasoft touched a 52-week low of ₹267.05 on October 1, 2026. It remains below its 52-week high of ₹473.75, reached on February 11, 2026. The sharp rebound may reflect renewed interest after the low, but one session’s price action does not establish that the business has entered a sustained recovery.

Sequential growth does not yet resolve the demand question

Revenue was $148.3 million, or ₹1,416.2 crore, up 2.1% quarter on quarter but down 1.1% year on year in constant-currency terms. The sequential increase offers some evidence of stabilisation, though the annual comparison shows that revenue has not returned to growth. That distinction matters: a better quarter-to-quarter reading can support sentiment without proving that clients are committing to a broader increase in technology spending.

Profit after tax was ₹159.6 crore, down 0.8% from the preceding quarter but up 37.5% year on year. The stronger annual profit comparison is a positive, although it sits alongside a decline in reported EBITDA margin. Margin came in at 15.2%, down 95 basis points sequentially and 84 basis points year on year. Wage increases and continuing investment in sales and service-line capabilities weighed on profitability, partly offset by operational efficiencies.

Deal bookings remain the key test

Total contract value was $116 million, down 31.4% quarter on quarter but up 8% year on year. New deal wins contributed $47 million, or 41% of the quarter’s TCV. Across H1FY27, TCV grew 15% year on year to $285 million, a more encouraging longer-period measure. However, quarterly bookings were below management expectations, and the weaker sequential figure raises questions about how quickly signed work can support revenue.

ICICI Securities said some deals had moved to Q3 or Q4 and described the pipeline as steady rather than materially improving. It also pointed to weakness in Energy & Utilities and expected seasonal furloughs to affect Q3. Management said near-term performance would reflect macro conditions and seasonality, while remaining committed to investment in sales and domain capabilities. Those investments could support future growth, but they may also constrain margins before additional business converts into revenue.

What investors may want to watch next

Management expects H2 performance to improve over H1, but the pace of deal conversion will be central to that outlook. AI-led engagements have been identified as a potential growth lever, though the brokerage noted that these opportunities have not yet translated into a sustained improvement in the revenue trajectory. Investors will also be assessing whether margin resilience can hold as the company absorbs compensation increases and continues capability spending.

Choice Broking’s Sachin Gupta said the stock showed signs of a possible trend reversal after finding support in the ₹266–270 zone. He said a sustained move above ₹330 could open a path towards ₹360–₹400. These are analyst views, not assured price outcomes; the business outlook still depends on demand, order bookings and execution.
