Benchmarks Hover Near Day’s High While European Markets Drift Lower

Indian Markets Steady as Global Trends Shift Amid Economic Optimism

Benchmark indices in India are buoyed by positive economic forecasts, while European markets face headwinds.

The Indian stock market is experiencing a positive session, buoyed by optimistic GDP forecasts and easing crude oil prices, while European markets are drifting lower amid mixed global sentiments.

Market Performance and Economic Indicators

As of early afternoon trading, the S&P BSE Sensex rose by 214.04 points, or 0.29%, reaching 74,528.63, while the Nifty 50 index climbed 52.80 points, or 0.23%, to settle at 23,323.40. The broader market also reflected this optimism, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index increasing by 1.01% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index gaining 1.03%. The market breadth remained positive, with 2,523 shares advancing against 1,636 declining on the BSE.

Global Economic Developments

In global markets, European indices are trending lower, reflecting a cautious sentiment following the Bank of Japan’s decision to raise its policy interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, the highest level in over three decades. This move aims to combat rising inflation, which has implications for global monetary policy and investor sentiment.

Meanwhile, the US markets closed higher on Thursday, buoyed by easing oil prices and strong labor data, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.61% and the S&P 500 rising 1.14%. The technology sector led the rally, with significant gains from major players like Nvidia and Apple.
