Astral Shares Tumble Over 12% After Q2 Earnings

Astral’s Revenue Growth Fails to Reassure Investors as Margins Come Under Focus

The sharp sell-off reflects a difficult combination: faster sales growth, slower operating profit growth and a decline in net profit.

Astral shares fell more than 12% to a 52-week low after the company reported its second-quarter results, even as revenue rose 26% year on year. EBITDA grew only 1.5%, while net profit declined 5.6%, highlighting a gap between sales growth and profitability. The results also showed sharply different performance across Plumbing and Paints and Adhesives.

The earnings mix mattered more than headline revenue growth

Astral reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹1,988.30 crore for the quarter ended September 2026, up 26% from ₹1,577.40 crore a year earlier. But EBITDA increased just 1.5% to ₹272.30 crore, while net profit slipped 5.6% to ₹127.30 crore from ₹134.80 crore.

That divergence is central to understanding the market’s response. Revenue growth shows that sales expanded, but the much slower increase in EBITDA suggests the company converted a smaller share of that growth into operating earnings. The fall in net profit adds to the concern. Investors will likely look for evidence that this pressure eases, rather than relying on sales growth alone.

Plumbing strength was offset by weakness in Paints and Adhesives

The segment figures reveal an uneven quarter. Astral’s Plumbing business recorded 6.9% growth in EBITDA to ₹227.60 crore. In contrast, EBITDA from Paints and Adhesives fell 19.2% to ₹44.70 crore. The decline in the latter business helps explain why strong consolidated revenue growth did not translate into comparable EBITDA gains.

For investors, the split makes the quality and composition of growth important. Continued strength in Plumbing could support overall earnings, but weakness in Paints and Adhesives may weigh on consolidated profitability if it persists. The results do not establish how quickly that business could recover, so subsequent performance will matter more than assumptions about an immediate turnaround.

A record-low session signalled a forceful reassessment

In Friday’s session, Astral fell 12.4% to an intraday low of ₹1,215.50 on the NSE, its 52-week low. At 10:20 a.m., it was down 10.6% at ₹1,237, with around 27 lakh shares traded across the BSE and NSE. The weakness stood out against gains of 0.7% in the Sensex and 0.5% in the Nifty.

The stock had reached a 52-week high of ₹1,768.70 on March 11, 2026, and had fallen more than 31% from that peak at the levels cited. The decline after the results suggests investors were focused on profitability and near-term margins, not just the increase in revenue. A heavy-volume fall can indicate active repricing, but it does not by itself show where the stock will settle.

Brokerage outlook hinges on recovery and execution

Equirus Securities maintained its “LONG” rating and ₹1,833 target price after the results, while cutting its FY27E and FY28E EBITDA estimates by 5% and 3%, respectively, to account for near-term margin pressure. The brokerage retained its recovery expectations, citing pricing, UK Adhesives, CPVC backward integration and new or higher-value products.

Equirus also identified the timely ramp-up of new capacities as a key monitorable. This frames the investment case around execution: the potential recovery factors cited by the brokerage need to translate into stronger operating performance. Its rating and target are analyst views, not a guarantee of future returns, and the reduced estimates underline that near-term earnings visibility remains a consideration.
