Samvat 2083: Can Sensex, Nifty Scale New Highs? Tech Analysts Weigh In

Sensex and Nifty Face a Test of Breadth Before Fresh Records

Technical analysts see room for recovery in Samvat 2083, but the path to new highs may depend on stronger market participation.

Analysts expect the Nifty to trade within a broad range, with 26,300 emerging as a key upside marker and 22,000–22,200 an important support area. Their outlook for the Sensex is also constructive but conditional: a sustained recovery and broader leadership will matter more than a short-term rebound.

The technical outlook for Indian equities in Samvat 2083 is cautiously positive, rather than an outright call for a fresh record. As of Wednesday, with two trading sessions left in Samvat 2082, the Sensex was down 8.4% at 77,301 and the Nifty had fallen 7.3% to 23,961. Analysts see scope for recovery from these levels, but differ on how quickly the benchmarks could regain momentum.

Nifty’s recovery has a defined ceiling—and a support test

Kotak Neo expects the Nifty to remain in a broad 21,700–26,300 consolidation range before a stronger directional trend takes shape. The brokerage says supportive corporate earnings create opportunities, but lower highs on daily and weekly charts indicate that downside risks have not fully faded. The range matters: it frames the coming year as a period in which investors may need to distinguish between a durable recovery and movement within a wider trading band.

Mirae Asset Sharekhan’s Muthuselvaraj sees potential for the Nifty to move towards 24,700–25,400 over the next six months, provided it holds above 22,000. Other technical levels cited include 24,800 and 25,400 as hurdles, with 26,300 a significant test. A break above that area could improve the case for further gains; until then, the cited levels suggest a recovery that may encounter resistance along the way.

Fresh highs hinge on participation beyond a few heavyweight stocks

YES Securities’ Pritesh Mehta sees the Nifty in a 22,000–26,000 range and says a new lifetime high could be difficult without a meaningful improvement in market breadth and broader leadership. The recent rebound, in his view, should not automatically be treated as the start of a runaway rally.

Mehta points to improving relative strength among select heavyweight stocks: the Nifty Top 10 Equal Weight Index gained about 7% on a quarter-to-date basis, while its ratio against the Nifty 50 reversed sharply. That is an encouraging sign, but the durability of the advance may depend on whether participation spreads beyond a handful of large companies. For investors, index strength without wider participation could make the rally more vulnerable to setbacks.

Sensex levels point to a recovery that still needs confirmation

The Sensex’s cited support levels are 73,200 and 71,300, with 67,000 a deeper medium-term level if 71,300 gives way. On the upside, analysts identify 77,800 as a breakout marker, followed by zones around 80,000–82,000. Choice Broking’s technical view places 83,000–86,000 as a possible medium- to long-term destination if the recovery strengthens, while YES Securities sees an upside target of 84,000.

These are conditional technical projections, not guaranteed outcomes. A move above resistance could improve sentiment, but a failure to hold support would weaken the recovery case. The differing targets also underline that analysts agree more on the importance of key levels than on the pace or eventual extent of an advance.

Investor Note: Treat the stated support and resistance levels as reference points, not predictions. A gradual recovery may offer opportunities, but the analysts’ cautions on consolidation and narrow leadership argue for watching market breadth and risk tolerance before drawing conclusions about a new-high rally.
