Piramal Pharma Soars 15% on Huge Volume After Q2 Results

Piramal Pharma’s Higher Outlook Puts Earnings Recovery in Focus

A stronger quarter and upgraded FY27 guidance sent the stock sharply higher, though sustained delivery will matter more than a single session’s rally.

Piramal Pharma reported a return to profit in Q2FY27, with revenue up 28% and EBITDA rising 72% year on year. Management raised its full-year revenue growth outlook to 19%–20%, citing business momentum and a stronger second half.

A broad-based quarter lifts the earnings picture

Piramal Pharma’s Q2FY27 revenue increased 28% year on year to ₹2,617 crore, supported by performance across all three businesses. Profit after tax was ₹5 crore, compared with a loss of ₹99 crore in the year-ago quarter. The return to profit marks a notable improvement, although the absolute profit remains modest relative to quarterly revenue.

EBITDA rose 72% to ₹385 crore, while the EBITDA margin expanded by 370 basis points to 14.7%. The company attributed the improvement to higher capacity utilisation, operating leverage, disciplined execution and cost optimisation. Together, the stronger revenue and margin performance suggest that growth translated into a larger operating profit, rather than coming only from higher sales.

Guidance upgrade raises the bar for the second half

Management now expects FY27 revenue growth of 19%–20%, alongside meaningfully higher profitability. It pointed to a healthy order book, encouraging customer engagement and operating discipline, and said the company was positioned for a strong full-year performance. Its expectation that the second half will typically be stronger than the first is central to the raised outlook.

The upgrade gives investors a clearer benchmark for the remaining year, but it also makes execution important: order activity and customer interest need to convert into revenue and earnings. The company’s actual performance against that outlook will be more informative than the guidance change alone.

CDMO demand and business mix offer support

ICICI Securities described the overall performance as better than expected and highlighted robust demand in the contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) business across Indian and overseas sites. It also noted increased requests for proposals and order inflows across the network, with 22 new customers added in H1FY27. The brokerage said the company expects CDMO growth momentum to continue through FY27.

Other parts of the business also showed positive indicators. The CHG business gained traction in select markets outside the US, with the Kenalog integration supporting growth during the quarter. In India, consumer business growth continued to be driven by power brands and e-commerce. These developments point to contributions from multiple businesses, though the supplied results do not quantify each segment’s individual contribution.

A sharp market response, with delivery still to prove

Piramal Pharma shares rose as much as 15% to ₹227.40 in intraday trading and were up 14.5% at ₹227.30 at 10:23 AM, while the Sensex was down 1.3%. Trading volume jumped to more than 20 times its average, with 43.65 million shares—equivalent to 3.3% of the company’s total equity—changing hands across the NSE and BSE. The scale of turnover points to intense investor interest following the results, but does not by itself establish whether the move will be sustained.

The stock had recorded a 52-week high of ₹231.85 on September 8, 2026. After the sharp rise, investors may focus on whether earnings growth and the upgraded outlook can support the market’s expectations. ICICI Securities said it was awaiting further clarity from the management conference call, leaving execution and additional management commentary as important points to watch.
