Vinay Rajani Expects Nifty to Rally Above 22,800, Shares Two Stock Picks

Nifty’s Next Test Is 22,800 as Technical Setups Emerge in Two Stocks

A break above a key moving-average hurdle could strengthen the index outlook, while Sagility and Cohance Life feature in HDFC Securities’ trading ideas.

HDFC Securities technical analyst Vinay Rajani sees scope for the Nifty to move higher if it sustains above 22,800, with 23,175 as the next resistance level and 22,370–22,400 as important support. The brokerage’s stock ideas are Sagility and Cohance Life, both supported by technical breakouts and improving chart indicators.

Nifty holds its short-term footing, but resistance remains close

The Nifty ended flat at 22,749 after recovering smartly from lower levels in the previous session. The index remained above that session’s swing low, a sign that its short-term strength had not been erased. But the recovery met a clear technical test: the 20-day exponential moving average, or 20-DEMA, at 22,824.

The index reversed lower after testing that level. Rajani’s view is therefore conditional rather than an unconditional call for gains: a sustained move above 22,800 would clear the cited hurdle and could open the way towards 23,175. Until then, the moving average remains an important near-term resistance to watch.

Support levels define the other side of the Nifty setup

The 22,370–22,400 zone is identified as an important support band. That level gives traders a reference point if the index fails to move through resistance, while the prior swing low provides another marker for judging whether the recent recovery is holding. These are technical reference levels, not guarantees that the market will reverse or continue in a particular direction.

For investors, the distinction between an intraday test and a sustained breakout matters. A move above 22,800 that holds would offer stronger confirmation than a brief crossing, while a retreat towards support would make the market’s ability to defend that band more relevant. The supplied view does not specify a time frame for either level.

Sagility and Cohance Life show different breakout patterns

HDFC Securities’ first idea is Sagility at ₹45.60, with a stop-loss at ₹43.50 and a target of ₹48.60. The stock has broken above a downward-sloping trend line on the daily chart and is trading above its key moving averages. The analyst also points to rising volumes during the price advance and bullish short-term indicators and oscillators. Together, those signals support the breakout case, although they do not rule out a failed move.

The second pick, Cohance Life, is recommended at ₹481, with a stop-loss of ₹471.30 and a target of ₹499. Its chart has broken out of a multi-month consolidation on a significant increase in volume. The stock is above its 20-, 50- and 100-day exponential moving averages, while daily indicators and oscillators have turned bullish. Rajani also notes strength in pharma stocks over the last couple of sessions, providing a sector-level tailwind to the technical setup.

Trade levels are plans, not assurances

The recommendations pair an entry level with a stop-loss and target, giving traders explicit levels to assess before acting. The stop-loss is particularly relevant because breakouts can lose momentum; volume and moving-average signals describe the current chart structure, not a certain future outcome. Investors should also distinguish a short-term technical trade from a decision to hold a stock for the long term.

For the index, traders may watch whether Nifty can sustain above 22,800 or instead remains capped by the 20-DEMA. For the two stocks, the stated stop-losses and targets make the analyst’s trade framework clear, but individual risk tolerance and the possibility of price gaps or reversals remain important considerations. The views are those of the cited analyst and should not be treated as assured returns.
