Gold, Silver Prices Slip on MCX as Strong Dollar Pressures Bullion

Gold and Silver Prices Decline as Strong Dollar Exerts Pressure on Bullion

The recent strength of the dollar has led to a decline in gold and silver prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), raising concerns among investors.

Gold and silver prices fell on October 13 as a stronger dollar weighed on bullion, with both metals experiencing fresh selling pressure in the domestic market.

Market Overview: Gold and Silver Prices

On October 13, gold and silver prices traded lower on the MCX, reflecting the impact of a firmer dollar. Gold futures were reported at approximately ₹1,49,450 per 10 grams, while silver futures stood at around ₹2,22,650 per kg. This decline follows a brief period of gains, where gold had opened higher at ₹1,49,653, only to drop to ₹1,49,470 later in the day. Silver also mirrored this trend, opening at ₹2,22,905 before falling to ₹2,22,653.

Global Market Dynamics

In the international market, gold futures on Comex were trading around $4,205.70 per ounce, showing a slight increase from the previous close of $4,190.60. Conversely, silver futures were trading marginally lower at $60.48 per ounce. The fluctuations in these prices highlight the ongoing volatility in the bullion market, influenced heavily by the dollar’s strength and global economic conditions.

Technical Analysis: Support and Resistance Levels

According to Ajay Kedia, director of Kedia Advisory, both gold and silver are facing fresh selling pressure. For gold, immediate support is seen at ₹1,48,605, with further support at ₹1,47,665. Resistance is noted at ₹1,51,040, and if prices can maintain above this level, a rise towards ₹1,52,535 may be possible. On the other hand, silver has support at ₹2,21,735 and ₹2,20,585, with resistance at ₹2,24,950. A break below these support levels could lead to a deeper decline in prices.

Investor Sentiment and Market Implications

The current market sentiment appears cautious as investors weigh the implications of a strong dollar on bullion prices. With the dollar’s strength often inversely correlated with gold and silver prices, this trend may continue to put pressure on these precious metals in the near term. Investors should remain vigilant, monitoring both technical indicators and broader economic signals that could influence market movements.
