Rio Health Secures $4.5 Million Pre-Series A Funding to Expand Quick Commerce Operations
The latest funding round positions Rio Health to enhance its delivery capabilities and expand its market presence in the competitive healthcare sector.
Funding Details and Future Plans
Rio Health, a quick commerce platform specializing in the delivery of medicines and healthcare essentials, has announced a successful pre-Series A funding round, securing $4.5 million (approximately Rs 43.08 crore). This round was led by Version One Ventures, with participation from existing investors such as Xeed Ventures, Good Capital, and Amplify. The latest investment brings Rio Health’s total funding to Rs 62.24 crore, following previous rounds that raised Rs 19.16 crore.
The company plans to utilize these funds to expand its operational footprint across the Delhi-NCR region, increasing its network of dark stores from three to over 15. Additionally, the investment will be directed towards enhancing the technology that underpins its ordering, inventory, and delivery processes. Rio Health aims to achieve an annual run rate exceeding Rs 150 crore within the next nine to twelve months.
Operational Insights and Customer Engagement
Currently, Rio Health processes over 30,000 orders monthly, with an average order value between Rs 600 and Rs 700. Notably, nearly 80% of its orders come from repeat customers, indicating strong customer loyalty and satisfaction. The platform allows users to place orders in Hindi, English, or Hinglish, or even by uploading a prescription photograph. An AI-driven system identifies the prescribed products, which are then verified by licensed pharmacists before delivery.
Each dark store serves a radius of approximately three kilometers, utilizing local demand data to optimize inventory and ensure the availability of frequently needed medications. With over 20,000 stock-keeping units available, Rio Health can also source less common medicines through its distributor network, enhancing its service offering.
Strategic Vision and Market Potential
Ankur Agrawal, co-founder of Rio Health, emphasized the unique challenges within the pharmacy sector, stating that the company aims to provide both speed and availability in medicine delivery. The recent funding will bolster their technology and improve demand forecasting at the neighborhood level, ultimately expanding their reach across Delhi-NCR.
Boris Wertz, a partner at Version One Ventures, highlighted the suitability of India’s pharmacy market for quick commerce, noting that success requires more than just rapid delivery. It necessitates a diverse product range, precise local demand planning, and robust operational controls. Rio Health’s early traction and repeat usage demonstrate its potential for growth in this evolving market.
